IPRN solutionAudiotext and IVR switch for IPRN numbers
An audiotext switch is telecom software — not an audio hardware switch — that answers calls to premium rate numbers and plays recorded audio or IVR content to the caller, then logs each call for billing.
Audiotext is recorded audio content that callers listen to on a phone line: information, entertainment, announcements or menus. On International Premium Rate Numbers, the audiotext or IVR is what the caller hears when the call is answered. This page explains how an audiotext and IVR switch works and how IPRNVOICE manages audio per range.
What is an audiotext switch?
An audiotext switch is a voice platform (telecom software, not a hardware audio switch for speakers or TVs) that answers calls and plays audio content. In IPRN, it sits behind your number ranges: when a provider sends a call to one of your numbers, the switch answers it and plays the content assigned to that number's range, then records the call for billing.
The key jobs are simple to describe: pick the right audio for each range, play it reliably on every concurrent call, end the call according to the range's rules, and log everything for reports and payouts.
Audiotext vs IVR
| Audiotext (playback) | IVR | |
|---|---|---|
| What the caller hears | A recording that plays from start to end | Prompts and menus |
| Caller input | None needed | Keypad choices (DTMF) |
| Typical use | Information lines, announcements, content | Menus, selections, routing to different content |
| Set up | Upload a file and assign it | Prompts plus menu logic |
Where audiotext is used
- Information and content lines: recorded information, news, guidance or entertainment.
- Announcements: service messages and recorded notices.
- Menu-based services: an IVR that lets callers choose what to listen to.
- Range testing: a simple playback that confirms a range is live. See IPRN test numbers.
Audiotext must be a real service for real callers. Calls generated artificially to premium numbers are fraud (IRSF), and providers refuse to pay for them. See IPRN fraud protection.
Managing audio per range
Upload from the panel
Add audio files in the IPRNVOICE control panel; no engineer or server access needed.
Assign per range
Choose playback or IVR for each range. Calls route instantly to the right file.
Duration per range
Random (min–max), fixed, or a list of durations picked at random; change the duration of a live call.
See every call
Live calls, CDRs, ACD and a rejected-calls log with the reason and SIP code.
What a good audiotext setup needs
- Clear audio files in a format your switch plays cleanly, at a steady volume.
- The right content on the right range, especially when one provider has many ranges.
- Duration rules that match your agreements with each provider.
- Limits and CLI rules so one source cannot flood a range.
- Reports per range to see calls, duration, bill duration and ACD by hour in the range's local timezone.
- Fast changes: swapping audio or disabling a range should take seconds, not a support ticket.
How audiotext billing works
Every answered call on the audiotext switch creates a CDR with its range, number, CLI, provider and duration. Billing is set per range as 1/1 (per second) or 60/1 (per minute), and the switch turns those CDRs into payouts per range and per agent with up to 9 payout tiers.
From the same data you get weekly usage, running balances, agent statements, credit notes and provider demand notes, so the revenue share you reconcile with each provider matches the calls your audiotext switch actually answered. See the IPRN billing system for details.
Audio and IVR in IPRNVOICE
IPRNVOICE includes a built-in FreeSWITCH call engine. You upload audio from the panel, assign playback or IVR per range, set duration rules per range and watch every call live, alongside limits, agents, reports and statements, from $300 per month.
FAQ
What is an audiotext switch?
It is a voice platform that answers calls and plays recorded audio content. In IPRN it plays the content assigned to each number range and records the call for billing.
Is an audiotext switch the same as an audio switch?
No. An audio switch is usually a hardware box that switches sound between devices such as a TV and speakers. An audiotext switch is telecom software that answers phone calls to premium rate numbers and plays recorded content or IVR menus.
What is the difference between audiotext and IVR?
Audiotext is a recording that plays to the caller. An IVR adds prompts and keypad menus so the caller can choose what to hear.
Can I use my own audio files?
Yes. In IPRNVOICE you upload audio files from the panel and assign playback or IVR per range.
Can each range play different content?
Yes. Audio, IVR and duration rules are set per range, so every range can have its own content.
How does audiotext billing work?
Each answered call is recorded in the CDR and billed per range as 1/1 or 60/1. IPRNVOICE turns the CDRs into payouts per range and agent with up to 9 tiers, plus weekly usage, statements, credit notes and provider demand notes.
Do I need a separate softswitch for audiotext?
No. IPRNVOICE has a built-in FreeSWITCH call engine, so the audiotext switch, control panel and billing run together on your dedicated server.
Is audiotext on IPRN legal?
Yes, when it is a real service used by genuine callers. Generating artificial calls to premium numbers is fraud, and IPRNVOICE includes CLI rules, limits and AI traffic-pattern alerts to keep such traffic out.
